日本三奇祭の一つに数えられる、北口本宮冨士浅間神社を中心とした富士山の山じまいを告げるまつりです。夕方、神輿の渡御に続いて、上吉田の沿道に立てられた高さ3メートルほどの大松明や、家々の前に積まれた井桁の松明に次々と火が灯されていきます。夜が更けるにつれて赤々とした炎が街道を埋め尽くし、夏の終わりと富士山の登山シーズンの締めくくりを告げる幻想的な光景が広がります。
Tips
沿道は多くの見物客でにぎわうため、よい場所で見たい場合は早めに向かいましょう。炎の近くを歩く場面もあるため、燃えにくい素材の服装が安心です。ベビーカーでの移動は混雑時は難しいことがあるので、抱っこ紐の用意もおすすめです。荒天時の開催可否は公式情報で確認してください。
Tips
As the festival time approaches, the street becomes more crowded, so eating before 4:00 PM is recommended. The level of congestion varies by restaurant, so allow plenty of time to arrive.
