This memorial hall stands at the site where poet Matsuo Basho concluded his famous journey. Exhibits showcase records of his travels and materials related to his haiku poetry. Located along the Sumon River, the setting itself evokes the atmosphere befitting a journey's endpoint. The building is air-conditioned, providing a welcome respite from summer heat.

「水の都・大垣」を象徴するまつりとして、大垣駅通りや本町通り、水門川一帯を会場に開かれる夏の一大行事です。会場には多くの屋台が並び、夕方から夜にかけて多くの家族連れでにぎわいます。水路沿いに提灯が灯る大垣ならではの夜景と、まつりのにぎわいが重なる特別な雰囲気を味わえます。
Tips
会場周辺は夕方から夜にかけて大変混雑するため、駅通りや水門川沿いの人の流れに沿ってゆっくり移動しましょう。屋台での買い物には小銭を多めに用意しておくと便利です。
Tips
Within walking distance of Ogaki Castle. Entry requires an admission fee. The interior can be toured in less than an hour, making it an easy-to-fit stop that doesn't require a long time commitment.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 45 minutes. An ideal cooling-off spot during hot afternoon hours.
