About this spot

This town spreads out at the foot of Kyobashi Bridge, which spans the Asahi River near Okayama Castle. It came to be called Kyomachi because many shops here once dealt in goods from Kyoto and Osaka, and the bridge's name derives from the same origin. The bridge was moved to its current location in 1593, and the present Kyobashi Bridge was built in 1917. On the first Sunday of every month, about a hundred stalls line the riverside plaza for the Bizen Okayama Kyobashi Morning Market. During the festival, crowds along the riverside also grow from the evening, so finishing your meal at this time helps you feel at ease before the main event begins at 17:00.

Tips

As the main event approaches, the area around the castle grows more crowded, so it is reassuring to finish your meal while it is still around 16:00. If getting takeout, be sure to stock up on plenty of drinks too.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The early part of the 16:00 hour is a relatively easy time to secure a seat.
