Early dinner at an arcade shopping street before parade viewing
About this spot
A historic shopping street running through central Morioka and part of the Sansa Odori performance route. It features both long-established restaurants and casual street food stalls, and in the evening, lanterns and decorations create a festive atmosphere throughout the street. The arcade provides shelter from sudden evening showers, ensuring a comfortable dining experience. As 6 PM approaches, spectators begin filling the street, and the excitement builds throughout the neighborhood.

盛岡さんさ踊りは、鬼退治にちなむ言い伝えを起源に持つ東北屈指の夏祭りで、2026年は8月1日から4日までの4日間、中央通・岩手県庁前を中心とした演舞コースで開催されます。太鼓の一斉演奏数で世界一を記録しギネス世界記録に認定されたこともある祭りで、初日18時、次々と登場する団体が太鼓を打ち鳴らしながら「サッコラ、チャグチャグ」の掛け声で乱舞します。浴衣姿の踊り手たちが編み出す隊列の美しさと、地響きのような太鼓の音圧は、東北の夏祭りの中でも屈指の迫力。子どもたちが参加する団体も多く、家族で楽しめる開放的な雰囲気が魅力です。
Tips
演舞コース沿いは開始前から観覧客で混み合うため、よい場所で見たい場合は17時台からの場所取りが安心です。周辺は交通規制がかかるので、公共交通機関の利用がおすすめ。荒天時の開催可否は主催者の発表を確認してください。
Tips
It's best to enter restaurants by 4 PM (after 6 PM parade start, lines and crowds make entry difficult). Using restrooms beforehand will make viewing more enjoyable.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. Early evening before dinner rush is a good time to secure seating
