The Izumo Bon Dance (出雲盆踊り), held as part of the Izumo Myth Festival (出雲神話まつり), takes place at Kunibiki Chuo-dori Yotsukado Plaza (くにびき中央通り四つ角広場) in Imaichi-cho (今市町), the central district of Izumo City, and in 2026 will run from 16:00 to 20:00 on August 8. To the leisurely ondo chanting and taiko rhythm befitting this land of myths, locals and travelers alike form multiple layers of circles and dance. Because it starts in the early evening, it's easy for families with small children to join in. Anyone is free to join the dance circle, so it's also a great chance to jump in and dance along by watching others.

Best time to visit

From the 16:00 start. It gets liveliest after 17:00, when the circle grows larger.
