About this spot

The site of Tsuwano Castle (津和野城), which once governed the Tsuwano area, now a mountain castle ruin where only the stone walls remain. You can ride a lift from the base up the hillside, and walking further to reach the stone wall remains reveals a spectacular panoramic view of the castle town with its white walls and moats stretching below. It's a fitting spot to start the course, letting you take in the topography of the Tsuwano basin and the overall shape of the town you're about to explore.

Tips

A few minutes' drive from the town center to the lift station. You'll be walking mountain paths, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The lift may only operate seasonally, so check in advance.
