Pay respects at a shrine preserving Japan's oldest yabusame grounds
About this spot
Revered as the tutelary shrine of Tsuwano Domain, this shrine still preserves the yabusame (horseback archery) grounds said to follow Japan's oldest traditions. Each spring, a magnificent yabusame ceremony is held here, preserving Tsuwano's samurai culture to this day. The shrine grounds, nestled in a grove of cedar trees, are tranquil and cool even in summer.
