About this spot

A historically significant Inari shrine located on the east bank of the Ashida River, just south of tonight's fireworks venue. The landscape is striking with over a thousand vermillion torii gates continuing from within the shrine grounds, and walking among the gates allows you to experience a unique atmosphere. The founding is said to date back to the Kamakura period, and it is known as one of the largest Inari shrines in the Chugoku region, cherished by local people. The scene of the Ashida River's water surface reflecting the vermillion color of the torii gates is a classic spot for commemorative photography and becomes a memorable keepsake of a family visit. The summer foliage provides plenty of shade, and the location is perfect for allowing your body to cool down a bit after the castle town walk.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Fukuyama Castle, and also accessible by local bus from JR Fukuyama Station. Worship is free. The shrine grounds have steps and stone paths, so please be careful with your footing if bringing small children. It is about 5-10 minutes on foot to the next destination, Meiouin.

Best time to visit

Approximately 45 minutes required. The afternoon dappled sunlight beautifully illuminates the vermillion color of the torii gates.
