About this spot

A merchant town of Ikeda that flourished from the Edo to Meiji periods as a distribution center for tobacco leaves. The street lined with udatsu (decorative fireproof walls) conveys the wealth and pride of merchants of the time. Walking while viewing the impressive udatsu that gave rise to the phrase 'udatsu ga agaranai' (not getting ahead), you can sense the prosperity of this town. Stone-paved alleys and machiya townhouses with lattice windows are popular as photogenic spots.

四国のほぼ中央に位置し「四国のへそ」とも呼ばれる三好市池田町で、8月13日から16日までの4日間開催される阿波おどりです。会場となるへそっ子公園とJR阿波池田駅周辺の通りには地元の連が集まり、鉦と太鼓のお囃子に合わせて次々と踊りが披露されます。徳島市や鳴門市の大規模な演舞場とは違い、観客との距離が近くアットホームな雰囲気が漂うのがこの町の阿波おどりの魅力。子どもたちが飛び入りで踊りの輪に加わる姿もよく見られます。

Tips

会場周辺は当日交通規制がかかることがあります。夜間は駅周辺以外の道が暗くなるので、懐中電灯があると安心です。荒天時の開催可否は最新の案内で確認しましょう。

Tips

About 15 minutes' walk from JR Ikeda Station. In summer, there are few shaded areas on the street, so take regular breaks. Some of the townscape is still used as residences, so please view quietly.
