This Awa Odori dance festival is held for just one day, August 16, in Yoshinogawa City along the banks of the Yoshino River. In 2026 it takes place under the name Kamojima Awa Odori, and about 20 dance troupes gather along the roughly 200-meter performance stretch of the central street in front of JR Kamojima Station from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m., dancing to the rhythm of gongs and drums. Unlike the large-scale performance venues in Tokushima City or Naruto City, this event is held on a compact street, putting you close to the dancers and creating a warm atmosphere that naturally draws children into clapping along and calling out. Having touched on history at Fujiidera and Kawashima Castle earlier in the day makes the excitement of the evening dancing feel all the more memorable.

Traffic restrictions may be in effect around the venue on the day. Some streets away from the station area get dark at night, so a flashlight is reassuring. The event is canceled in the rain (light rain does not cancel it), so check the latest announcements if the weather looks unstable.

Best time to visit

From the 6:00 p.m. start. After around 6:30 p.m., once the sun has set and the lanterns are lit, the festival atmosphere builds even further.
