Medieval mountain castle ruins on a hill overlooking central Tochio, said to be where Uesugi Kagekatsu, who became Uesugi Kenshin's stepson, spent his childhood. The traces of earthen fortifications utilizing the steep terrain remain today. Climbing the mountain trail to the main compound ruins reveals a refreshing vista overlooking Tochio's town and the surrounding mountains. In summer, the verdant greenery and cool breeze through the trees create a pleasant hiking course. Walking through the castle ruins, you can feel the history connected to the Uesugi clan rooted in this land.

2026年のとちお祭は8月22日、23日の2日間、長岡市栃尾地区の本町通り周辺を会場に開催されます。山々に囲まれた小さな城下町の通りが夜になると灯りに包まれ、地元の人々や家族連れが集う夏祭りの舞台に変わります。初日となる22日は、祭りの熱気が高まり始める最初の一日。昼間に巡った城跡や巨木、名物の油揚げなど、栃尾らしい風景と味を楽しんだ後に迎える夜の祭りは、山あいの町ならではの温かみのある雰囲気を味わえます。

Tips

会場周辺は祭り期間中、車両の通行が制限されることがあります。夜は山あいのため気温が下がりやすいので、羽織るものを一枚用意しておくと安心です。

Some sections of the mountain trail are unpaved, so comfortable walking shoes are essential. In summer, take precautions against insects and sun exposure. The climb requires effort even for adults, so bring plenty of water.
