About this spot

One of the island's biggest festivals, held every year in early September at Fureai Park in Kumejima Town. In 2026 it's scheduled to be held over two days, September 5 and 6. Eisa dance performances by local youth associations, parades, and a variety of performing-arts stages unfold, as islanders and tourists come together to celebrate the end of summer in grand style. In a homey atmosphere unique to a remote island, it's a day when the whole island is wrapped in excitement to the sound of taiko drums.

Tips

Parking around the venue is limited, so arriving early is reassuring. It stays humid even at night, so don't forget to stay hydrated. If arriving by ferry or plane, check the last departure time in advance.

Best time to visit

From the 17:00 start. After 18:00, once the sun has set and it cools down, is recommended for easier viewing.
