About this spot

Samegai, which flourished as the 61st post town along the Nakasendo highway, is known for the clarity of its spring water. In the Jizo River running through the town, baikamo water plants sway and bloom with delicate white flowers in summer. Along the river, old inns and museums remain, conveying the atmosphere of the post town as it once was. The murmur of the clear stream and the cool air by the water also make this a perfect spot to escape the heat during a midsummer stroll.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from the Shinjo Cherry Tree Avenue. There is little shade along the river, so take frequent breaks during the hottest hours. The baikamo plants are mainly best viewed in summer.
