Samegai, which prospered as the 61st post station on the Nakasendo Road, is known for the clarity of its spring water. In summer, the Jizo River flowing through the post town sways with delicate white plumbago flowers. Along the riverbank remain old inns and museums from that era, conveying the character of the post town to the present day. The murmur of the clear stream and the cool air of the riverside make it a perfect summer refuge during a peak summer walk.

米原市の清滝山で、お盆の時期に山の中腹の松明に火が灯される伝統行事です。2026年は8月15日の16時30分頃からの点火が予定されています。麓の集落からは、夕暮れに浮かび上がる炎の姿がはっきりと望め、先祖の霊を送る送り火としての意味合いを持つとされています。近江の里山に古くから伝わる、静かで趣深い夏の締めくくりの行事です。
Tips
山の中腹での点火のため、麓の見晴らしのよい場所から鑑賞するのが基本です。周辺は道幅が狭いところもあるため、駐車場所には十分注意しましょう。日没後は足元が暗くなるため、懐中電灯があると安心です。

About 10 minutes by drive from the Unfailing Cherry Blossom. The riverside has little shade, so take frequent breaks during hot hours. Plumbago flowers are best seen in summer.
Best time to visit
Takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. The afternoon breeze from the water is pleasant, making it the recommended time.
