Summer Festival of the Thousand-Year-Old Hot-Spring Town, Illuminated by Food Stalls and Lanterns
About this spot
A beloved summer tradition of the region, held throughout Yamashiro Onsen town, which boasts over 1,300 years of hot-spring history. The 2026 festival runs from August 7-16, and this course focuses on its opening day. Food stalls line the hot-spring town, offering street food for dinner, and as dusk falls, lantern light illuminates the alleys. Guests and locals mingle together in a warm atmosphere of summer-night enjoyment. The Soyu bathhouse, the residence of the legendary artist, and the Kutani pottery kiln site that you visited during the day reveal entirely different faces under the festival lights at night.
