Experience the opening at 6:30 PM—Japan's largest sandal parading the streets

About this spot

The 2026 Fukushima Waraji Festival runs August 7-9 along National Route 13's Shinobu Street and Station Front Street. Originating from the great sandal offerings in the dawn pilgrimage at Mount Shinobu's Hakuro Shrine, Japan's largest great sandal—approximately 12 meters long and weighing about 2 tons—is carried by numerous bearers through the night streets. Drum performances and dance parades accompany the procession, filling the street with lantern light and festive energy. This powerful climax perfectly concludes a day immersed in the region's history and culture.
