Learn About Numata's History as a Castle Town Under the Sanada Clan
About this spot
A museum within Numata Park that introduces the history of Numata Castle and its castle town under the rule of the Sanada clan, as well as the folklore surrounding the sacred portable shrines carried in the Numata Festival. Visiting after walking through the castle ruins allows you to better understand the meaning of the stone walls and moats you saw, and provides insight into the background of the festival you are about to witness. The air-conditioned museum interior is also a welcome retreat during hot summer hours.

関東三大暴れ神輿のひとつに数えられる「千年公方様」の御神輿を中心に、東倉内町をはじめとする沼田市の中心市街地一帯で繰り広げられる勇壮な夏祭りです。2026年は8月3日から5日までの3日間開催され、初日から御神輿の練り歩きや太鼓、踊りなどさまざまな催しで通りは熱気に包まれます。担ぎ手たちが力強く神輿を揺さぶりながら練り歩く様子は、河岸段丘の城下町として発展してきた沼田ならではの迫力です。夜が更けるにつれて祭り囃子と歓声が響き渡り、夏の思い出に残る一夜になります。
Tips
屋台の出店情報は確認できていないため、夕食は上之町商店街など事前に済ませておくと安心です。神輿の巡行ルートは沿道が大変混雑するため、小さな子ども連れは無理に近づかず離れた場所から見守るのが安全です。荒天時は開催内容が変更になる場合があるため事前に確認しましょう。
