Established in 1621 by Tokugawa Yorifusa, the first Mito daimyo, this shrine honors Tokugawa Ieyasu. Though conveniently accessible by foot from Mito Station, quiet grounds await beyond the stone steps. 水戸駅北口から大工町交差点にかけての国道50号を舞台に、2026年は8月1日(土)・2日(日)の11時から21時まで開催される水戸の夏を代表する祭りです。このコースでは初日である8月1日を主役に据えています。「水戸黄門まつり」の名の通り、水戸黄門(徳川光圀)にゆかりの深い水戸の街を、山車や神輿が1日を通して練り歩き、沿道は朝から夜まで多くの人出でにぎわいます。昼間に見学した偕楽園や弘道館、千波湖の黄門像とあわせて訪れることで、水戸の歴史と祭りのつながりをより深く感じられる1日になります。屋台の出店状況は年により変わるため、食事は周辺の飲食店で計画的にとるのがおすすめです。
Tips
祭り当日は国道50号が長時間にわたり歩行者天国となり、周辺道路も交通規制がかかります。公共交通機関の利用が安心です。日中は日差しが強いため、こまめな休憩と水分補給を心がけましょう。小さな子ども連れは、人出が増える夕方以降ははぐれないよう注意してください。
