About this spot

This park was developed on the ruins of Kushima Castle, the seat of the Omura clan. Thanks to its distinctive location jutting out into the sea, the castle was also known as the 'Floating Castle,' and its former appearance is preserved here today. The grounds retain a water moat and stone walls, and lush walking paths spread out around Omura Shrine and Omura Gokoku Shrine, both enshrined within the park. Known throughout the year as a spot for flowers, the park's tree-shaded paths make for a cool stroll in summer. The view of Omura Bay from the castle ruins is also one of the highlights.

Tips

Within walking distance of JR Omura Station. The grounds have little elevation change and are easy to walk, but in summer it's more comfortable to choose times or routes that avoid direct sunlight and stay in the shade. Parking is also available.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. Early afternoon tends to be relatively uncrowded, allowing for a leisurely stroll.
