About this spot

In 2026, from August 4 to 8, giant Tachi Neputa floats parade through the central district of Goshogawara City starting at 7:00 PM each night. The floats, standing about 23 meters tall and weighing around 19 tons, move between buildings on a truly extraordinary scale, and the sight of the handlers pulling them forcefully while shouting 'Yattemare' is spectacular. The giant floats once disappeared due to the installation of power lines, but were revived thanks to the local community's passion, which went as far as burying the power lines underground, a history that still carries the whole town's devotion to the festival today. The sight of the illuminated Tachi Neputa lighting up the night streets as it moves forward is a fittingly powerful way to close out summer in Tsugaru.

Tips

Spot-saving along the parade route begins early. If you want a good viewing spot, it's safer to be along the route by around 6:00 PM. Surrounding roads are closed to traffic during the festival period, so using public transportation is recommended.

Best time to visit

Starts at 7:00 PM. Around 9:00 PM, when the floats pass between the buildings, is the most spectacular moment.
