About this spot

Deep within an inlet facing the Pacific Ocean, this shrine is also called the 'Miyajima of Tosa' for its vermillion torii gate standing toward the sea. Long revered locally as a shrine for praying for safety at sea, the grounds, wrapped in a quiet sacred grove and the scent of the tide, offer a calm experience in contrast to the bustle of the Susaki Festival. The main hall dates from the Edo period, giving it a historic atmosphere. The scenery formed by the sea and the torii gate is a hidden gem worth visiting when you come to Susaki.

Tips

About a 15-minute drive from the roadside station. Some parts of the road to the shrine grounds are narrow, so drive carefully. There is little shade in summer, so a hat or parasol is reassuring. As it's a quiet shrine, please observe good manners and view it quietly when visiting.
