A dug harbor built in the Edo period, among Japan's oldest of its kind. Ingeniously carved into the land, it represents advanced civil engineering for its time and continues to serve as an active fishing port supporting the community's livelihood today. You can experience both the simple charm of a fishing village and the historical significance of the port—a sight unique to Kochi.
Tips
As a working fishing harbor, please avoid interfering with fishery operations. Little shade is available, so hats or umbrellas are recommended in summer.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. Afternoon when fishing work winds down is easier for viewing.
