About this spot

This historic hot spring town is also known as the setting of the folk song “Kaigarabushi.” Inns and eateries line the streets, and you can stroll while taking in the atmosphere unique to a hot spring town with steam rising into the air. Local eateries serve dishes made with seafood from the Sea of Japan, making it perfect for dinner before the festival begins in earnest. Some facilities also offer day-use baths or foot baths, giving you a chance to soothe away the fatigue of travel.

Tips

If you plan to use a day-use bath, check the operating hours in advance. In the evening, crowds increase ahead of the festival, so an early visit is recommended.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. You can enjoy a calm stroll and meal before the festival gets underway.
