The 2026 Tottori Shan-Shan Festival takes place over three days, from Thursday, August 13, to Saturday, August 15. On the first day, August 13, which serves as the pre-festival, the “Suzukko Odori” dance unfolds at Fumon Plaza in front of JR Tottori Station from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A defining feature of the Tottori Shan-Shan Festival is dancing with bells attached to the tips of umbrellas, so that the sound of bells rings out with a “shan-shan” as the dancers move. The following day, August 14, features a mass umbrella dance across central Tottori's streets, from Wakasa Kaido through Katahara-dori, Chizu Kaido, Taihei-sen-dori, and Ekimae-dori (Part 1: 5:00-6:50 p.m., Part 2: 7:00-9:00 p.m.), and the preceding night, the 13th, has an approachable, family-friendly atmosphere that's easy for families with children to enjoy.
