A Summer Festival Set in a Historic Port Town
About this spot
The 2026 Gion Festival will be held on August 1 (Saturday) in and around the Minato district of Ichiki Kushikino City. Set against the backdrop of this historic port town that has long prospered from fishing and bonito flakes production, it is a traditional summer festival passed down by local residents. Festival drums and events held by community organizations add color to the streets. True to its heritage as a seaside town from which the young Satsuma Clan students who sailed to Britain once departed, the summer evening spent surrounded by the atmosphere of the port becomes the perfect memory for families.
