The area around Makurazaki Port—known as one of Japan's premier bonito flake production regions and as a base for deep-sea fishing—is enveloped in an unusual bustling activity during the festival. With the festival running long hours from noon opening to 10 PM closing, the appeal of this festival is that families can choose their own pace—whether to visit during cooler daytime hours or to spend time leisurely from evening onward. From evening onward when the venue lights come on, you can enjoy the calm nighttime atmosphere unique to a port town.
