About this spot

This is a workshop for Tazurahama Tategu (fittings), a craft with a history of more than 350 years. Tazurahama Tategu began in 1650, when the Cho family rebuilt their family temple, Toreiji, and invited two joiners from Owari to make doors, sliding screens (shoji), and transoms (ranma); local villagers then apprenticed under them and carried the craft forward. Here, using the kumiko technique of assembling wood without nails, artisans produce not only fittings but also room dividers, andon lamps, and shadow-picture shoji that have been certified as an Ishikawa Brand product. It's a quiet chance to experience craftsmanship rooted in the local area before heading to the festival venue.

Tips

The workshop is also close to Nakajima-machi, the festival venue. The items on display are delicate, so please be careful not to touch them.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. Recommended as a calm interlude before heading to the festival.
