About this spot
The Okumakabuto Festival (お熊甲祭), designated as a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, is held at Kumakabuto Arakashihiko Shrine (久麻加夫都阿良加志比古神社), located in Miyamae, Nakajima-machi, Nanao City. In 2026 it takes place on September 20, and it's a spectacular sight as large waku-bata banners are carried out from the parishioners' villages and paraded into the shrine grounds to the sound of flutes and drums. Lion dances and portable shrines join in as well, and the festival has been carefully passed down by the local community as a powerful event that colors the Noto autumn. This quiet shrine in the countryside is filled with excitement for just this one special day.
