Plenty of river play stepping across stones in the clear mountain stream

About this spot

Rurikei (るり渓) is a Kyoto Prefectural Nature Park in Sonobe-cho, Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, a scenic spot where waterfalls large and small and potholes line the gorge. Since it is open at all times, its appeal is that you can drop by easily in any season. Clear water flows through the shallows within the gorge, and you can play freely in nature, stepping across stones and splashing in small waterfall basins. The tree-lined gorge stays cool even in summer, a place where you can forget the heat of the city and relax.

Tips

The water is refreshingly cold, so playing during the warm, sunny hours is recommended. There are rocky and slippery spots within the gorge, so preparing shoes that do not slip when wet is reassuring. You will walk a short way along the trail from the parking lot, so keeping your luggage to a minimum makes moving around easier.

Best time to visit

Entering the gorge after 12 p.m. means warm sunshine and water whose coolness feels pleasant
