About this spot

Toei Kyoto Studio Park (東映太秦映画村) is a theme park built around a working period-drama film studio. Sprawling open sets recreate the streets of the Edo period, and there is plenty to captivate children, including ninja action shows and costume transformation corners. Filming for period dramas still takes place here, so if you are lucky you may catch a shoot in progress. It is a perfect morning sightseeing spot for soaking up Kyoto's traditional Japanese atmosphere.

Tips

The park is within walking distance of both Uzumasa Station and Satsueijo-mae Station, making it easy to reach. Shows run on set start times, so checking the schedule on the official website in advance will help your visit go smoothly. Many of the sets are outdoors, so bring a hat and drinks in summer.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Right after opening in the morning is relatively uncrowded and easy to get around
