A 155-meter bridge spanning the Katsuragawa River (also called the Ooigawa in this area), its graceful form against the backdrop of Arashiyama is one of Kyoto's representative landscapes. The name is said to derive from the words of Emperor Kameyama in the Kamakura period, who composed a verse comparing it to 'the moon crossing without clouds.' At the base of the bridge, Arashiyama Park's Nakanosima district spreads out, offering perfect spots for family rest—relax by the riverside or grab takeout lunch from nearby eateries. The boat landing from the Hozu River boat ride is nearby, so you can walk directly from the boat. Capture cherished family photos with the magnificent scenery of mountains, river, and bridge as your backdrop.

Tips

A short walk from the Hozu River boat landing. While many restaurants surround the bridge, lunch time gets crowded—getting takeout and eating by the river in the Nakanosima district is a pleasant alternative. The bridge walkway is narrow, so hold your child's hand when crossing. The classic photo is taken from the Nakanosima side with Arashiyama in the background.
