Jingoji Temple (神護寺)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Jingoji Temple (神護寺) is an ancient temple halfway up Mount Takao, reached by a long flight of stone steps lined with maples and cedars. The temple grounds are some distance away, but even walking a little near the start of the approach lets you feel the cool air and stillness unique to a mountain temple. It is a spot where you can touch Kyoto's deep mountain nature in the short time before heading to the pool.

Tips

Climbing all the way to the grounds means a long flight of steps and plenty of time, so on this course keep it to a taste of the approach and move on to the next stop with time to spare. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Best time to visit

About 25 minutes. Just the right length for a short stop before heading to the pool
