See the monument that tells of exchange among Japan, Spain and Mexico
About this spot
The Monument Commemorating Relations Among Japan, Spain and Mexico (日西墨三国交通記念之碑) records the historical fact that when a Spanish ship ran aground off Onjuku during the Edo period, local people rescued the crew. That event is said to have sparked exchange among Japan, Spain and Mexico, and it is still treasured in Onjuku Town as a symbol of international friendship. Standing on a rise overlooking the sea, it is a place where you can connect with the history of the Boso coast. Before sea bathing, make it a time for parents and children to learn this region's story together.
