Stroll atmospheric streets threaded with water channels
About this spot
Shokunin-machi and Kajiya-machi (職人町・鍛冶屋町) are the areas that preserve the old townscape most representative of Gujo Hachiman. Water channels run throughout the district, and the constant flow of clear water is a sight unique to a town of water. Walking slowly along streets lined with latticed houses, you can sense the atmosphere of a castle town that has continued since the Edo period. Peer into the channels and you may spot carp swimming, making it a walk children enjoy too.

吉田川親水遊歩道は、郡上八幡の城下町を流れる吉田川沿いに整備された散策路兼川遊びスポットです。新橋からの飛び込みは地元の伝統行事として知られていますが、危険を伴うため小さな子どもは遊歩道沿いの浅瀬で遊ぶのが安心です。澄んだ水と穏やかな流れは水遊びにぴったりで、河原からは郡上八幡城を望むこともできます。水の町・郡上八幡ならではの清流を、家族でたっぷり楽しめる1日のクライマックスです。
Tips
浅瀬とはいえ場所によって流れの速さが変わるため、小さな子どもは目を離さないようにしましょう。すべりにくい川用シューズがあると安心です。夕方は日陰になりやすいエリアもあるので、体が冷えないよう羽織るものを用意しておくと安心です。
Tips
You can walk down here from Gujo Hachiman Castle (郡上八幡城). There are many cobbled paths and narrow lanes, so if you have a stroller it is reassuring to check an easy route in advance. Water-related landmarks such as Sogisui Spring (宗祇水) are also scattered nearby, so stop by them as well.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The morning, before the sun gets strong, is the easiest time to walk.
