About this spot

The Mitakesan Cable Car (御岳山ケーブルカー) links Takimoto Station and Mitakesan Station. On the roughly six-minute journey through the air, you can look out over Mitake Valley and the mountains of Okutama spreading below, an exciting moment before exploring the valley. There are viewpoints around the summit station too, where you can spend time at leisure feeling the cool mountain air. For small children, riding the cable car itself becomes a special experience.

御岳渓谷は、青梅市の御岳本町から沢井にかけて多摩川両岸に広がる景勝地です。遊歩道は通年で通行でき、夏には浅瀬での川遊びを楽しむ家族連れでにぎわいます。澄んだ水が流れる浅瀬では、石を渡ったり水しぶきをあげたりと、自然の中でのびのび遊べます。木々に包まれた渓谷は夏でも涼しく、都会の暑さを忘れてゆったり過ごせる場所です。

Tips

水はひんやりと冷たいため、日差しのある暖かい時間帯に遊ぶのがおすすめです。渓谷内は岩場や滑りやすい場所もあるため、濡れても滑りにくい靴を用意しておくと安心です。遊歩道から河原へ下りる箇所もあるので、荷物は最小限にまとめておくと動きやすいです。

Tips

Takimoto Station is a few minutes by bus from Mitake Station. It can get crowded at weekends during the summer holidays, so visiting early in the morning allows a calmer ride. The summit is cooler than the foot of the mountain, so something to put on is reassuring.
