Plenty of river play in a clear stream flowing between sheer rock walls

About this spot

Kanotoiwa Rock (神戸岩) in Kanoto, Hinohara Village, is a valley where sheer rock walls over 100 metres high tower on both sides. The Kanoto River (神戸川) flowing between them is a crystal-clear stream, and in summer families visit to enjoy water play in the shallows. Visitors generally approach via the Lodge Kanotoiwa campsite, and the walking path is usable all year. The distinctive landscape enclosed by sheer rock walls has a power that is hard to find in other valleys.

Season & hours

Name: 神戸岩(かのといわ)・神戸川

Date & time: 常時開放(ロッヂ神戸岩キャンプ場経由での利用が案内されている)

Venue: 檜原村神戸・神戸川

Tips

The water is chilly, so playing during the warm, sunny hours is recommended. Some rocky places are slippery, so non-slip shoes that can get wet are reassuring. In the mountain folds the sun also disappears early, so plan with time to spare.

Best time to visit

Entering the valley after noon means warm sunshine, and the coolness of the water feels pleasant.
