Aomori City Sports Park Wakuwaku Hiroba Waterside Plaza with its fountain and water channel (青森市スポーツ公園わくわく広場 親水広場(噴水・水流れ)) is a free water play area inside a spacious park covering 6.2 hectares. It consists of a fountain and a water channel, and since it is not deep enough for swimming, even small children can step in safely. What is nice about this park is that the fun does not run out when the water play does. There is a large combination playground modelled on Aomori landmarks, a long slide and a suspension bridge, giving you a full day of active play. A wide natural turf lawn spreads out, so there is no trouble laying down a picnic sheet to rest. There are two restroom buildings, and the flow for changing and taking breaks has clearly been thought through. The adjoining sports grounds also include a baseball field, a soccer field and tennis courts.

Tips

The 2026 opening period has not been announced yet; in most years the water runs to coincide with the summer holidays. Check the park information for that day's operating status before you leave. From January to March the area is closed due to snow. Even with two restroom buildings it can get crowded for changing, so a poncho-style towel keeps things smooth. Shade is limited on the natural turf lawn, so in addition to a picnic sheet, a pop-up tent or a parasol makes resting easier. Bring plenty of drinks and take frequent breaks.
