Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (国際芸術センター青森)

About this spot

A base for contemporary art in the forest of Goshizawa, Aomori City, and an artist-in-residence facility where artists from Japan and abroad stay and create. The buildings are arranged to follow the line of the trees, so the indoor galleries flow naturally into the outdoor walking paths. In summer the shade of the trees is deep, and simply walking through the forest brings relief from the heat. There is no need to overthink it: looking up at large works and strolling the woodland paths is more than enough fun for children. Admission is free, so even a short stop feels worthwhile. It is about a five-minute drive from Wakuwaku Hiroba.

青森市スポーツ公園わくわく広場親水広場(噴水・水流れ)は、面積6.2ヘクタールという広い公園の中にある無料の水遊び場です。噴水と水流れで構成されていて、泳ぐ深さではないため小さな子どもでも安心して足を入れられます。この公園がうれしいのは、水遊びに飽きても遊ぶ場所が尽きないこと。青森の名所をモチーフにした大型複合遊具や長い滑り台、吊り橋がそろい、体を使う遊びが一日分そろっています。天然芝の芝生広場が広がっているので、レジャーシートを敷いて休むのにも困りません。トイレは2棟あり、着替えや休憩の動線も考えられています。隣接するスポーツ広場には野球場やサッカー場、テニスコートもあります。

Tips

2026年の開設期間は発表前で、例年は夏休みの時期に合わせて水が流されます。出発前に公園の案内で当日の稼働状況を確認してください。1月から3月の冬季は積雪のため利用できません。着替えはトイレが2棟あるとはいえ混み合うことがあるので、ポンチョ型のタオルがあるとスムーズです。天然芝の広場は日陰が限られるため、レジャーシートに加えてワンタッチテントや日傘があると休憩が楽になります。飲み物は多めに持参し、こまめに休憩をとりましょう。

Tips

The centre is open from 9:00 to 19:00, and exhibitions can be viewed from 10:00 to 18:00. Closing days are the year-end and New Year period and dates related to university entrance exams, so in summer it is open almost always. However, the galleries may be closed between exhibition runs, so check what is on via the official website before you go. The outdoor paths are uneven, so comfortable walking shoes make the visit more pleasant. For lunch, either return to the city centre or bring a packed lunch.
