Natsumi Temple Ruins (夏見廃寺跡)

On a hill in Natsumi, Nabari City, this historic park preserves the remains of a temple from the Asuka and Nara periods. No buildings survive, but the positions of the foundation stones of the main hall and the pagoda are marked, so you can imagine the scale of the complex as you walk. The lawn is wide and the views open, a pleasant place for children at the age when they want to run around. In the neighbouring exhibition hall you can see excavated materials such as senbutsu clay Buddha plaques, real objects that came out of the ground. Walking here while the morning is still cool makes the afternoon water play feel even better.

名張市の「比奈知ダム下流親水公園せせらぎ水路」は、ダムの水を利用してつくられた人工の水路で遊べる無料のスポットです。水資源機構の公式案内では『子どもたちの水浴び場として、週末は家族連れでいっぱいになります』と紹介されており、地元では夏の定番として親しまれています。水は浅く流れも穏やかなので、歩き始めたばかりの小さな子でも大人が付き添えば足をつけて遊べます。ダムから流れ出る水はひんやりしていて、真夏の日中でも長く入っていると体が冷えるほどの冷たさ。同じ園内には旧比奈知発電所の発電機展示やダムを望む広場があり、休憩と水遊びを交互にはさめるのも助かります。料金は無料で、着替えを持って気軽に立ち寄れるのが何よりの魅力です。

Tips

開設期間は未発表なので、夏以外に訪れる場合は現地の状況を確かめてから出かけてください。水路の底には小石があり足を切りやすいので、マリンシューズを必ず用意しましょう。ダムの水は冷たく、唇が紫になる前に上がって体を温めるのが鉄則です。大雨のあとや放流時は水量が変わることがあるため、現地の掲示や放送に従ってください。周辺に店が少ないので、飲み物とタオルは多めに持参を。

Tips

The neighbouring exhibition hall posts its opening days and fees, so check in advance if you plan to visit. The historic park itself is free to walk around. There is little shade, so a hat and drinks are essential. In summer there are insects in the grass, so insect repellent makes things more comfortable.
