Hinachi Dam

About this spot

This large dam sits on the upper reaches of the Nabari River (名張川), and the water it holds back is called Lake Hinachi. You can walk along the top of the embankment, with the still lake surface on one side and a deep valley on the other, a dramatic contrast. Children rarely get a chance to see a concrete structure of this scale up close. Once they learn that this water flows down into the stream channel of the waterside park just below, the afternoon's water play takes on a new meaning. It is close to the downstream waterside park, so it is easy to visit one after the other.

名張市の「比奈知ダム下流親水公園せせらぎ水路」は、ダムの水を利用してつくられた人工の水路で遊べる無料のスポットです。水資源機構の公式案内では『子どもたちの水浴び場として、週末は家族連れでいっぱいになります』と紹介されており、地元では夏の定番として親しまれています。水は浅く流れも穏やかなので、歩き始めたばかりの小さな子でも大人が付き添えば足をつけて遊べます。ダムから流れ出る水はひんやりしていて、真夏の日中でも長く入っていると体が冷えるほどの冷たさ。同じ園内には旧比奈知発電所の発電機展示やダムを望む広場があり、休憩と水遊びを交互にはさめるのも助かります。料金は無料で、着替えを持って気軽に立ち寄れるのが何よりの魅力です。

Tips

開設期間は未発表なので、夏以外に訪れる場合は現地の状況を確かめてから出かけてください。水路の底には小石があり足を切りやすいので、マリンシューズを必ず用意しましょう。ダムの水は冷たく、唇が紫になる前に上がって体を温めるのが鉄則です。大雨のあとや放流時は水量が変わることがあるため、現地の掲示や放送に従ってください。周辺に店が少ないので、飲み物とタオルは多めに持参を。

Tips

There is no shade on top of the embankment and the wind can be strong, so take care that hats are not blown away. Water levels and currents downstream can change during releases, so always follow the posted notices and announcements. Tours of the dam management office vary by day, so enquiring in advance is the surest way if you would like one.
