This is the plaza area of the same Hinachi Dam Downstream Waterside Park as the stream channel. An open lawn faces up towards the dam embankment, and laying a picnic sheet in the shade turns it straight into a lunch spot. A generator once used at the former Hinachi Power Station is on display in the grounds, letting you feel at full scale how the power of water makes electricity. Peering at the gears and pipes and saying that this is where the water used to turn is likely to change how children react. This is not an area with many restaurants nearby, so buying food and drinks on the way is the right call.

名張市の「比奈知ダム下流親水公園せせらぎ水路」は、ダムの水を利用してつくられた人工の水路で遊べる無料のスポットです。水資源機構の公式案内では『子どもたちの水浴び場として、週末は家族連れでいっぱいになります』と紹介されており、地元では夏の定番として親しまれています。水は浅く流れも穏やかなので、歩き始めたばかりの小さな子でも大人が付き添えば足をつけて遊べます。ダムから流れ出る水はひんやりしていて、真夏の日中でも長く入っていると体が冷えるほどの冷たさ。同じ園内には旧比奈知発電所の発電機展示やダムを望む広場があり、休憩と水遊びを交互にはさめるのも助かります。料金は無料で、着替えを持って気軽に立ち寄れるのが何よりの魅力です。

Tips

開設期間は未発表なので、夏以外に訪れる場合は現地の状況を確かめてから出かけてください。水路の底には小石があり足を切りやすいので、マリンシューズを必ず用意しましょう。ダムの水は冷たく、唇が紫になる前に上がって体を温めるのが鉄則です。大雨のあとや放流時は水量が変わることがあるため、現地の掲示や放送に従ってください。周辺に店が少ないので、飲み物とタオルは多めに持参を。

Tips

Do not count on vending machines or shops; bring plenty of drinks with you. Taking your rubbish home is the basic rule. Shaded spots fill up quickly around lunchtime at weekends, so arriving early and spreading out your sheet is reassuring. Do not forget insect repellent and sunscreen.
