Kyoto City Rakusai Bamboo Park Bamboo Field Splash Pond (京都市洛西竹林公園 竹林広場)
About this spot
The Splash Pond at the Bamboo Field in Kyoto City Rakusai Bamboo Park is a free water play area that appears in a plaza surrounded by bamboo. The pond is about ankle-deep, so even small children who have just started walking can go in and play with a guardian. In 2026 the water runs on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between Wednesday 1 July and Wednesday 30 September, and every day except Wednesdays from Saturday 18 July to Monday 31 August, so you can plan weekday visits during the summer holidays too. The plaza has play features such as a slide that makes use of the sloping ground, plus a lawn plaza and an arbour, so there is somewhere to be once you come out of the water. The bamboo softens the sunlight, so it wears you out less even in summer, and that is the charm of this water play spot.

Tips
The park is open 9:00-17:00 with last entry at 16:00, and closed every Wednesday and over the New Year period. Entry and water play are both free, but no changing rooms are announced, so wearing swimwear underneath or bringing a towel poncho makes changing smoother. The grounds are undulating, so take care not to slip when walking in sandals with wet feet. The arbour and benches can also be used to keep your belongings, so deciding on a rest spot as soon as you arrive makes it easier to move around.
Best time to visit
Enter at 13:10 and you can play for a long stretch into the hours when the afternoon sun softens, enjoying it fully until 16:30 before closing
