Hosono Shrine (祝園神社)

About this spot

An old shrine enshrined in Hosono, Seika Town, with a history that leaves its name even in the Engishiki (延喜式) code. The Iogomori Festival (居籠祭) held every winter is designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, and is known for the unusual practice of passing the time quietly, without making a sound. The precincts are surrounded by groves, a quiet place where the air feels cool even on a summer morning. Noticing that a place of such old faith remains right beside the new streets of the science city brings the layers of this land into view. Keihanna Commemorative Park is about 10 minutes away by car, so you can move in time for the park to open.

けいはんな記念公園芝生広場のせせらぎは、棚田状に段の付いた芝生広場沿いを流れる浅瀬です。段差を伝って水が下っていく造りなので、上流から下流へ歩きながら遊べるのが他の水遊び場にはない面白さになっています。深いところがなく、歩き始めたばかりの子でも保護者と一緒に入っていけます。芝生広場の利用は無料で、例年夏に水遊びができ、2026年の通水期間は未公表です。子ども向けの遊具も近くにあるため、水から上がったあとの居場所に困らないのも家族連れには助かるところです。

Tips

開園は9:00〜17:00（入園は16:30まで）なので、帰りの時間は余裕をもって計画してください。通水の状況は年により変わるため、出発前に公園の案内で確認しておくと空振りを防げます。更衣室の案内は出ていないので、水着は下に着ていくかタオルポンチョを用意すると着替えがスムーズです。芝生の上を濡れた足で歩くと草が付くので、上がったらすぐ拭けるようタオルを近くに置いておきましょう。

Tips

It is within walking distance of Hosono Station on the JR Gakkentoshi Line and Shin-Hosono Station on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. There is no shop inside the precincts, so prepare drinks and a packed lunch beforehand. Agreeing in advance to visit quietly makes for a calmer walk. The surroundings are residential, so if you come by car, check whether parking is possible in advance to be safe.
