Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro General Sports Park (Taiyogaoka) Asobi-no-Mori / Fureai-no-Mori Waterside

About this spot

The Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro General Sports Park (Taiyogaoka) Asobi-no-Mori / Fureai-no-Mori Waterside is an unusual arrangement in which water-play places are provided at several spots inside the park. Asobi-no-Mori has a circular pond 20 m across and 0.3 m deep together with a waterwheel hut, so you can play while watching the wheel turn. Fureai-no-Mori has a 330 m watercourse and a lawn plaza, and Furusato-no-Mori an 83 m watercourse, so when children tire of one you can move on to the next waterside and fill the day. The circular pond, at 0.3 m deep, is shallow enough for small children to stand in, and it is reassuring that parents can watch over them from close by. Both admission and water play are free, and only the Family Pool has a separate charge.

Tips

The opening period for the watersides has not been announced; in a typical year they open during the summer holidays. Checking the park's information for the day before you set out will save a wasted trip. The pedestrian gates are open from 5:00 to 22:00 and the vehicle gates from 7:00 to 22:00 with unrestricted entry, so there are few time constraints. The grounds are wide and the watersides are far apart, so bringing comfortable walking shoes as well as your water-play sandals makes moving around easier.

Best time to visit

Enter from 14:10 and you can go round several watersides before the sun sinks, playing on into the cool of the evening
