Kase River Barrage (嘉瀬川大堰)

About this spot

The riverbed of the Kase River, which runs south across the Saga Plain and empties into the Ariake Sea. In autumn this is the venue of the Saga International Balloon Fiesta and fills with crowds, but in every other season it is very quiet, with nothing but broad grassland and a great sky spread out before you. Climb the embankment and nothing blocks the view: you can take in the flat terrain of the Saga Plain and the distant mountain ridges all at once. The embankment path carries no traffic, which is a relief when a child runs a little way ahead but never out of sight. Saga Prefectural Forest Park, the next stop, lies along the same Kase River, so the day flows naturally along the water.

佐賀県立森林公園じゃぶじゃぶ池（せせらぎ広場）は、せせらぎ広場の中央に広がる無料の水遊び場です。2026年の期間は4月25日から10月中旬までで、公式の「ご利用案内」にも「じゃぶじゃぶ池期間：4月25日～10月中旬（2026年）」と記されています。水深は約10cmと浅く、ろ過設備も備わっているので、靴を脱いで水とふれあう小さな子の水遊びに向いています。入園料も駐車場も無料なので、天気のよい日に思い立って出かけられるのがいちばんの魅力です。水に飽きたら学びの広場の大型複合遊具や広い芝生広場に戻れて、休みながら何度でも池へ戻れるのがこの公園のよいところ。夕方の光が水面に反射する時間帯は特にきれいで、一日の締めくくりにぴったりです。

Tips

終了日は「10月中旬」とのみ公表されているため、9月下旬以降に出かける場合は公式サイトの「ご利用案内」で当日の状況を確かめてください。靴を脱いで入る池なので、脱いだ靴とタオルをまとめる袋があると散らかりません。日陰は木立のあるあたりに限られるので、レジャーシートやタープで休憩場所をつくると長く遊べます。ぬれた体は冷えやすいので、上がったらすぐ拭いて着替えられるよう、タオルは人数分より少し多めに用意しておくと安心です。

Tips

There is almost no shade, so bring a hat and drinks and keep the stop short. Always hold hands when approaching the water, and on days when the river is high or just after rain, keep to the view from the top of the embankment. There are no toilets on the riverbed, so plan to use the ones at Saga Prefectural Forest Park afterwards.
