Saga Prefectural Forest Park (佐賀県立森林公園) has a 35,000 square-meter lawn plaza, one of the largest in the prefecture, making it the perfect place to spread out a picnic sheet and enjoy lunch. Since there are groves of trees around it, you can also conveniently move your sheet into the shade depending on the angle of the sun. After eating, head to the large combination play equipment at the Learning Plaza. It's large enough for a good, full-body workout, so elementary schoolers can burn off all their energy here at once. For younger children, there is toddler-friendly combination play equipment at the Health Plaza, so siblings of different ages can each find their own place to play. The symbolic fountain of the natural pond also runs from April 25 to mid-October, offering a cool-looking sight when viewed from the plaza.

Tips

Both admission and parking are free, so you can move around lightly, leaving your belongings in the car. Since the flow is to head to the splash pool after working up a sweat on the play equipment, carrying a full change of clothes with you saves you from having to make an extra trip. Because the lawn is so large, there are few landmarks, so deciding on a meeting spot near something eye-catching like the play equipment or the fountain will help you avoid getting separated. On sunny days, a pop-up tent or a large parasol will make resting more comfortable.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Shaded spots fill up first around lunchtime, so decide on your spot as soon as you arrive.
