Nakajima Park Japanese Garden (中島公園日本庭園)

About this spot

On the south side of Nakajima Park (中島公園), this is a stroll-style Japanese garden laid out around a pond. The Hassoan (八窓庵) teahouse has been relocated into the grounds, and being able to see a Japanese building straight after a Western-style hall is a pleasure unique to this park. The stand of trees is deep and a breeze crosses the surface of the pond, so it is an easy place to walk even in midsummer. The stepping stones and the arched bridge are a small adventure for children, and good practice at walking quietly. Settle everyone down here before the afternoon water play.

中島公園水遊び場は、園内の菖蒲池まわりの流れで水遊びが楽しめる無料の水辺です。2026年の開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間にあたります。札幌市の案内では開放期間・時間の定めは特になしとされているため、当日の水辺の様子を見ながら遊ぶ形になります。深いプールとは違って浅い流れなので、小さな子でも足をひたすところから始められるのが安心なところ。まわりは木立に囲まれていて日差しがさえぎられ、大人は岸辺で涼しく見守れます。園内にはトイレと売店があり、着替えも飲み物の調達もその場で完結します。

Tips

開設期間・時間が定められていないため、出発前に当日の状況を確認してから向かってください。石や砂で足を切らないよう、水遊び用サンダルを履かせておくと安心です。地下鉄中島公園駅・幌平橋駅から歩いてすぐなので、着替えたあとの帰り道が短いのも助かります。夕方は日陰が増えて冷えるので、体を拭いたら早めに乾いた服に着替えましょう。

Tips

The Japanese Garden is open only for a limited period, so check in advance whether it is open. The edge of the pond can be wet underfoot, so holding a small child's hand while walking is reassuring. Many of the paths are gravel and there are places where a stroller is hard to push. Refrain from eating and drinking inside the garden, and save the lunch boxes for the lawn area.
