Yubutsu Museum (勇武津資料館)

About this spot

A municipal museum in the Yufutsu district that tells the story of how this land was pioneered. Through documents and models you can follow the events of the late Edo period, when the Hachioji Sennin Doshin settled this wilderness to guard and develop the land of Ezo (蝦夷地). Life amid harsh nature is displayed in concrete terms, so even children can grasp how the quiet landscape now spread before them came to be. Because it is not large, you can go round it while attention still holds, which is a blessing for families with small children. It also makes a well-timed stop for a rest before the afternoon's water play.

勇払ふるさと公園水遊び場は、苫小牧市の勇払地区にある無料の水遊びスポットです。例年6月1日(月)から9月7日(月)まで、9:00〜18:00に開放され、苫小牧市の案内では「6月初旬〜9月初旬」と紹介されています。水深の浅い水遊び場なので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも足をひたして遊べます。市街地から離れた地区にあるため混み合いにくく、子どものペースでのんびり過ごせるのがこの公園のいちばんの魅力です。利用は無料なので、時間を気にせず気が済むまで遊ばせてあげられます。日の長い北海道の夏は、夕方になっても明るいまま遊び続けられます。

Tips

天候や清掃により開放が変更されることがあるため、出発前に苫小牧市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。周辺に商店は多くないので、飲み物やおやつは市街地で買ってから向かうと安心です。着替えの場所は限られるため、水着を服の下に着せていくと現地での支度が楽になります。18:00に終了するので、17時半ごろから片づけを始めると余裕をもって帰れます。

Tips

Check the open season, opening hours and closed days in the Tomakomai city information in advance. It is only a short drive from Yufutsu Furusato Park, so it fits either before or after the water play. The inside is quiet, so agreeing on voice levels with small children beforehand helps them settle in. There are few restaurants nearby, so prepare drinks in advance.
