This municipal museum shows Ebetsu's history as one continuous story, from the pioneer era to the present day. Blessed with fine clay, Ebetsu is a town of bricks, and here you can clearly see where the brick buildings scattered around the town came from. Subjects unique to this land are displayed alongside the actual tools used: river transport on the Ishikari River, the lives of the farmer-soldiers who cultivated the peat lands, and the lamprey fishing once carried out on the river. The exhibition rooms are compact, so even small children can make a full round while their attention lasts, which is a real blessing. It is just the right way to spend a morning on a day when you want to save energy for the water play in the afternoon.

Tips

Check opening hours, closing days and admission fees in advance through the Ebetsu City information. The museum is a place to keep quiet in, so making a promise with small children beforehand keeps the visit calm. There is a car park, so it is an easy place to stop by car. If you look for the town's brick buildings as you move on afterwards, children stay interested for much longer.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. The morning, right after opening, is quiet and lets you look around slowly.
