Former Shimamatsu Post Station (旧島松駅逓所)

This wooden relay station in Shimamatsu, Kitahiroshima City, is designated a national historic site. In an age with neither railways nor automobiles, these relay stations were where travelers and freight on Hokkaido's highways were passed along, and the building conveys the daily life and transport system of the time exactly as it was. Nakayama Kyuzo, who lived here, is known as the man who succeeded in growing rice in bitterly cold Hokkaido, and the exhibits let you read the traces of his hard work. This site is also handed down as the place where Dr. Clark of Sapporo Agricultural College said farewell to his students. For children, simply being able to step inside an old-time house is fascinating, and the feel of the wooden floor and earthen entrance is an experience no photograph can convey.

輪厚自然公園水遊び場は、北広島市にある無料の水遊びスポットです。2026年の開設期間は未発表ですが、例年は夏休みの時期に合わせて水が出ます。小さな子どもでも安心して遊べる浅い水遊び場なので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも足をひたして遊べます。この公園の名物は、築山を利用した長いすべり台。斜面をそのまま生かしているので距離があり、何度でも登って滑りたくなる楽しさです。複合遊具もそろっているため水に飽きても遊びが途切れず、緑に囲まれた静かな環境なので大人は木陰から落ち着いて見守れます。

Tips

開設状況は年によって変わるため、出発前に北広島市の案内で今年の期間を確認してください。すべり台は服がぬれていると滑りにくく傷みやすいので、水遊びのあとに乾いた服へ着替えてから遊ばせると安心です。着替えの場所は限られるため、水着を服の下に着せていくと現地での支度が楽になります。夕方は風が出て体が冷えることがあるので、羽織ものを一枚持っていきましょう。

The building is a precious cultural property, so follow the guidance of the staff as you look around. There is little shade nearby, so bringing a hat and drinks makes the visit more comfortable. Wattsu Nature Park is about 10 minutes away by car.
