About this spot

This is a small, old-fashioned amusement park inside Hakodate Park. Its greatest attraction is the Ferris wheel, said to be the oldest in Japan. Its simple, slow rotation is nothing like the rides at today's large amusement parks, which is exactly why children find it fresh. A merry-go-round and other small rides line up alongside it, and the system of buying tickets and riding them one at a time is a Showa-era amusement park exactly as it was. Surrounded by old trees, there is plenty of shade, so it stays relatively comfortable even on hot days. The Central Fountain you will head to next is right nearby, so when they tire out from playing, moving on to water play feels completely natural.

函館公園中央噴水(水遊び)は、函館山のふもとに広がる歴史ある公園の中心にある無料の水遊びスポットです。2026年は7月1日(水)より、準備が整い次第利用できるようになります(終了日は未発表)。中央の大噴水は柵がなくなだらかな作りで、子どもが自分の足で水辺に入っていけるのが特徴。まわりには複数の小噴水があり、勢いよく浴びたい子と静かに足をひたしたい子がそれぞれの場所を選べます。園内にはトイレがあり、「こどものくに」もすぐそばなので、一日を通して過ごしやすい環境です。古い木立が多く日陰が確保しやすいので、大人もゆったり見守れます。

Tips

利用開始の状況は準備の進み具合によって変わるため、出発前に函館市の案内で確認してください。柵がないぶん水辺の出入りが自由なので、小さな子からは目を離さないようにしましょう。石畳で滑りやすい場所があるため、水遊び用サンダルを履かせておくと安心です。海が近く夕方は風が出ることがあるので、羽織ものと乾いたタオルを多めに用意しておきましょう。

Tips

Check the operating season, hours and prices in advance. Rides often work on a ticket system, so having small change makes things go smoothly. Most rides are aimed at younger children, so upper elementary school students may find it lacking. The grounds are uneven, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
